Position: Investment Analyst- Columbus, OH
Job Overview:
This position assists in the establishment of an ongoing business
process, approach, and discipline to investment management reporting
and analysis within Nationwide Investments. Areas of reporting
accountability include Enterprise Portfolio Management, Portfolio
Risk Management, Fixed Income Investments, Real Estate Investments,
Investment Operations, and Third Party asset management. It is
responsible for effective information retrieval; interpretation
and analysis of investment performance, risk characteristics,
and portfolio attribution; and communication of investment results,
portfolio attributes, risk measures and other investment information
relevant to Boards of Directors, Business Partners, Rating Agencies
and other (internal and external) constituents.
Central to the job is the exchange of information between people,
systems and other sources. There is frequent pressure from time
constraints and urgent requests. This position coordinates and
produces investment information and analytics, ensuring accuracy
and completeness prior to release to audiences within specified,
agreed upon timelines. It is part of a small team that serves
as the central point of coordination for investment information
for the Nationwide Enterprise and provides ongoing support and
assistance to the communication efforts of Nationwide Investments
and its strategic direction.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Conducts the development, analysis, coordination, and preparation
of key investment information utilized in management reporting
to various audiences: including Investment Highlights to the
Nationwide Mutual Board of Directors, Investment Reviews and
Attribution Analysis with key business partners and stakeholders,
special ad-hoc analysis, key performance indicators, etc.
- Oversees the coordination, development, and preparation of
investment forecasting information including economic assumptions,
asset spreads, asset allocation, and others factors used to
formulate strategic plans and facilitate tactical decisions.
- Leads the development of internal investment analysis and
analytical projects from inception to conclusion often resulting
from business partner, Board, or internal management inquiries
and questions, ensuring thoroughness, proper interpretation,
and accuracy of results prior to presentation.
- Produces reports on general economic trends, industries, individual
corporations and other items as appropriate to assist in the
strategic direction.
- Provides insight into actionable information that can be used
to drive results and/or provide early warning for risk mitigation.
- Analyzes results to uncover hidden meanings and insights for
utilization in future strategies.
- Provides direction and expertise into the development of technical
solutions to business reporting and analysis needs and interacts
with the technology team to develop long term, technical solutions
that can be integrated into the common information management
architecture of the Investment Department.
- Conducts presentations and training on investment management
reporting processes and procedures as required.
Job Requirements
Education: Undergraduate degree in economics, mathematics, finance,
statistics or Business Administration. MBA, CFA or Industry Designation
preferred. A CIPM is highly desired.
Experience: At least five years (or more) of relevant experience
in investment reporting, quantitative analysis, and process /
customer management.
Knowledge: Advanced knowledge of Fixed income investment securities,
strategies, and products. Strong understanding performance measurement
and reporting methodologies, fixed income attribution, and quantitative
analysis. Must be adept in business, finance, technology, and
economic theory. Knowledge of life, retirement savings, and/or
insurance products is a plus.
Skills/Competencies: Advanced analytical and problem-solving
skills are a must, as well as good oral and written communication
skills with all levels of staff and management. The ability to
remember details is required and an intense motivation for seeking
out obscure information is important. Must be able to develop,
evaluate and recommend solutions to business and process management
issues. Must have the ability to drive for results, deal with
ambiguity and relationship dynamics, and conceptualize strategic
objectives. The incumbent should also be familiar with accounting
methods, investment operations, and tax regulations pertaining
to security transactions. The job requires initiative, resourcefulness,
tact, and the ability to work both in an independent or team oriented
fashion.

Working Conditions: Normal office environment. Occasional travel
and non-standard work hours.
